Foto Friendship goes to Hato-Builico March 2015

In March 2015 we embarked on an ambitious project to take Foto Friendship to the remote mountainous sub-district of Hato-Builico, Timor-Leste. Here Timorese film-makers Bety Reis and Gaspar Sarmento, "Beatriz’s War", worked with Foto Friendship founders Tammy Burnstock and Wendy Chandler to teach students how to use cameras for the very first time.

Students at Eskola Secundária Katólika Nain Feto Ramelau, were introduced to friends from Winmalee and Cabramatta High Schools. They were encouraged to think and write about their lives then take LOTS of photos! Gaspar also ran a series of workshops at the Public School in Hato-Builico for students from primary school to year 10.

The students each choose six photos that told stories of their lives to send back to students in Australia. You can view some of these foto stories in Galleries Gallery | solo 1, Gallery | solo 3 and Gallery | group 3 on our galleries page.
